Are these cars really that cheap nowadays? The asking price on this GXP is $8500, and it looks good with no visible issues to my eye. Sure, the practicality of these things pales in comparison to my NC Miata, but at this price, it makes a lot of sense as a cool toy, and a quicker one than an NC Miata at that. https://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/cto/6617465085.html
I stopped by Shamrock to see how things were going on the Mustang. Outside the shop was this wonderful example of the first generation Ford Galaxie, in a sweet two tone color combination of pink and rose. I like it.
Wow, this is pretty sweet! A mostly complete Toyota Crown from the 60’s, and a parts car that was sacrificed to save it. Safe to say that you’d be the only one at a car show with a car like this. Bidding just started and it’s at $4k with reserve unmet. I wonder how much the pair will eventually sell for… https://www.ebay.com/itm/1966-Toyota-Crown-RS41-RS40/312152231162
Once again, I’m at the Detroit Grand Prix with DRSCCA. I wasn’t as productive shooting photos as I was last year, but I think I got a few decent shots of SCCA corner workers. Today is Sunday, however, and I’m just enjoying myself. I’m sitting here waiting for the Sunday Indy Car race to start, where the cars are lining up in grid behind pace car #2, after pace car #1 spun itself into the wall after Corner 2…
I have arrived at CMP and swapped the track tires and pads on the car. This will be an interesting weekend — I have never driven this track before, and it’s supposed to rain all weekend long. My primary goal is not to cripple the car here…
I’m running on four hours of sleep — perfect for an 11 hour drive? South Carolina, here I come.
This Jensen-Healey has just popped up for sale on the local Craigslist. It’s got a lot of things going for it — it runs, for one. Has soft and hard tops, engine punched out to 2L, has the thinner Euro chrome bumpers on the car, and looks pretty solid. Still, if beauty is enough for me to welcome a car with, “unique” driving character into the fleet, the opposite holds true. This car may drive very well, but on account of its dull looks, I’d have to pass. Seller is asking $5700. https://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/d/1974-jensen-healey-lotis/6595589986.html
The seller is asking a lot of money for this car, but it’s mostly rust free and it’s a great color to boot. It only has 79k miles, and is for sale by the second owner. Someone needs to go and preserve this car. 1979 Honda Civic with an asking price of $5k. https://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/6594796520.html
Blargh! It’s an alien creature! The first step in looking prettier is to get fugly first…
Whelp, time is up. Justin and Jason helped me button up the last couple of tasks I had on the whiteboard last night. Bled the clutch, gave up on the exhaust, and attempted to start the car. The good news: with a little bit of coaxing (and some starting fluid), the V8 roared to life after one and a half years of hibernation. The bad news: the clutch won’t disengage, so either there’s still a shit ton of air in the clutch hydraulics or I messed up the internal clutch slave installation. It’s halfway through the month, and my next three weekends are booked, so it’s time to call in the heavy cavalry: Scottie and his merry band of professional (read: not hacks like me) wrenches will have to set things right.
